FOUNDING DIRECTOR
Tyde-Courtney Edwards is the Founding Director of Ballet After Dark, a trauma-informed nonprofit dedicated to supporting girls and young women impacted by trauma and sexual violence through dance, education, and somatic healing. A Baltimore native, Edwards is a classically trained ballerina, art model, and survivor of sexual assault with over 30 years of experience in professional performance and dance education. She has trained with prestigious institutions including the Baltimore School for the Arts, Debbie Allen Dance Academy, Dance Theatre of Harlem, Peabody Conservatory, Joffrey Ballet, and Alvin Ailey.
Under her leadership, Ballet After Dark has expanded its impact to include advocacy around menstrual equity, providing comprehensive reproductive and sexual health education alongside direct access to organic menstrual and hygiene products. Edwards’ work sits at the intersection of arts, public health, and community healing, with expertise in strategic development, business consultation, and social impact.
Her leadership and innovation have earned national recognition, including finalist on America’s Got Talent (Season 17), Johns Hopkins University SIL Grand Prize Winner, United Way Changemaker Challenge Grand Prize Recipient, and fellowships with the Aspen Institute, Halcyon, Dance/USA, and more. She has also been recognized by the Baltimore Ravens, Meta, The Baltimore Sun, and The Baltimore Banner as an emerging leader and changemaker.

Ballet After Dark host a winter fundraiser performance each December. These intimate events help support the youth dancers and performers enrolled in the BAD Ballet Dance Company. Company dancers receive paid performance opportunities, professional development, youth leadership and employment opportunities.
